Why Two Care Labels Disagree About the Same Fiber

Test which one applies to your garment by looking at it rather than the label. A plain undyed knit with no trims can be treated far more generously than its label suggests.
Does washing cooler than the label cause problems?
Almost never, with two specific exceptions.
Cooler is safer for essentially every fiber and every construction. Colder water means less dye loss, less fiber swelling, less shrinkage, and less elastane degradation. There is no fabric that prefers to be washed hotter than necessary.
